I really like that song, don’t you? Actually, I’m not going to “reintroduce” myself at all. Instead, I’m going to introduce the latest addition to the family, our sweet little pup Raven. After suffering from the loss of our beloved pup Mia, a little joy was brought back into our lives. Her name was, well she had a few names, Vera Wang, Suzette and finally the name to end all names Raven. We gave her that name after many nights of debating Pepper, Minnie or Poppy. After a lengthy battle we both finally agreed on Raven.

I should say that she isn’t actually a “new addition”, her adoption happened in October of 2022. I was worried we wouldn’t get her. The stress between the time we filled out the adoption papers to when she came home was overwhelming for me. I didn’t think we’d be approved. We have our Sammy (Samwise Gamgee) who is 15-years-old and I wasn’t sure how ok he would be with the new addition. Even though he’s a dog, he felt the loss of Mia too. It took him a minute to warm up, but now they’re ok together. It’s more like he tolerates her. They’re never going to have the same relationship he had with Mia. I wouldn’t expect them to. Sammy and Mia grew up together. Raven brings something new out in Sammy, youthfulness maybe? He needed Raven’s companionship and spunkiness even if he does get annoyed by her.

We didn’t get Raven to replace the loss we felt and continue to feel for Mia, that never goes away. I think about and miss Mia everyday. I look back on the many years of memories with love. We laugh at how much Mia wouldn’t have gotten along with Raven.
At the beginning, Raven would randomly bark at Mia’s ashes or she would be too afraid to go into the kitchen to eat or drink water. I feel with all my heart that Mia was still very present in our home. Now, Raven is no longer afraid of the ashes or the kitchen. I had to explain to Mia, (yes I still talk to her) that she can never be replaced and will forever be loved, as long as I walk this earth I’ll meet her in my dreams. My heart is big enough to make room for the animals that need love and a good home.
In the almost one year that we’ve had her, Raven has brought us so much joy and happiness. She has a huge personality in a super tiny body. Sometimes she looks like Alien, yes the creature from the movie. She’s a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world.

I really don’t have anything more to say, except that she was adopted from a rescue called Good Dog-Dog Talk. We love our girl and are so happy to have her in our lives! Please go out and support animal rescues or save a dog from the pound. As evolved as we think we may be, animals sometimes show more love and compassion to animals of other species than we do to our fellow human beings. That’s because we suck and we can do better, but we don’t!
Random end thought: this year for Halloween, Raven is going to be a bat!!
